surreal

I saw her! We didn't speak but I remember looking up and there she was. Smiling. I think I asked if she knew who I was...asinine question, really. She just nodded her head, and continued to smile. It struck me that I hadn't seen that kind of smile from her since I was a little girl and she would pick me up from school. We would go to the mall and get a burger, then catch a movie, sometimes go to the arcade. Those are the times I remember her most radiant smile.
In the last few years, she was always tired and didn't really feel well but she always made an effort if she knew I was coming to see her. We always managed a laugh...
She really looked happy. I was happy for a moment... I woke up crying.
I'm thankful for the brief glimpse of her smile. I miss her with every ounce of me.

Perfect, pinpoint perfect piece of writing. Just enough of her there in the story to make her distinct and real yet still slight enough to be dream- or ghost-like. A moving and beautifully made piece of writing.

Very touching... I'm really moved. I'm glad you got a chance to see her smile again.
Absolutely lovely.
